NED Alumni Association Canada (NEDAC) came into existence by electing its first Board Members on September 10, 2006. NEDAC Bye-Laws were approved on February, 2007. NED Alumni Association Canada (NEDAC) is a not-for-profit organization and its purpose is to create and nurture a lifelong relationship between the NED University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi, Pakistan and its alumni residing in Canada. It is a clearly defined, members motivated and financed, non-political, social and welfare organization of graduates of NED Engineering College/NED University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi and is managed by an elected Board of Directors. NEDAC strives to accomplish this purpose through a program of on-going communication and recognition, providing valuable information and knowledge transfer to its members through a variety of events and services, and by encouraging a commitment to support and participate in its alma mater. The objectives of NEDAC are:

• To enhance the image of NED University of Engineering and Technology in Canada
• To promote interaction and closer contact among its members to achieve collective benefits for NEDians residing in Canada
• To organize events such as symposiums, technical seminars, training courses, and other informative events for members
• To co-operate and interact with other independent NED Alumni Associations around the world with similar goals and objectives.

A team of researchers from the Department of Fire Protection Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) will conduct groundbreaking tests on May 23-25 aimed at better understanding the effects of earthquakes on building systems designed to suppress or prevent the spread of fires. The test are part of a major $5 million study, supported by a coalition of government agencies and industry partners, seeking to learn what needs to be done to ensure that high-value buildings, such as hospitals and data centers, can remain operational in the aftermath of earthquakes.
